This video introduces the National Gallery of Art’s first online course, Teaching Critical Thinking through Art with the National Gallery of Art, available on the edX platform. Based on the museum’s popular Art Around the Corner professional development program for teachers in Washington, DC, this five-part online course uses the Gallery’s deep experience with Artful Thinking to build a unique, interactive online learning environment. Participants will have the opportunity to look, reason, and wonder about works of art, just as the routines ask students to do. To make this possible, the course includes an innovative tool called iiiF that allows you to zoom in and explore each high-definition work of art from the National Gallery of Art’s free, online database. Participants will also watch real lessons unfold with teachers and students in original videos. The course includes all of the resources necessary to put the routines into practice in the classroom and is designed for educators in any classroom or museum setting, subject, or level.
